‘Winter Readings’ approaches the Alhambra and the south of Picasso

Date:

The conferences of the cycle, coordinated by the philosopher Francisco Jarauta, take place in February and March at the Cajamurcia Foundation

An approach to the always tantalizing Alhambra and its beauties and an approach to the inexhaustible world of Picasso. These are two of the possibilities offered by the ‘Winter Lectures’ cycle, coordinated by the philosopher and art connoisseur Francisco Jarauta and one of the most important novelties in the cultural offer programmed by the Fundación Cajamurcia for this new academic year.

This cycle of conferences, which will take place from February to March at 7:30 pm in the Aula de Cultura of the Fundación Cajamurcia in Murcia (Gran Vía, 23), will also include the participation of prestigious curators and art critics as professors and national experts in art history and cultural management.

The ‘readings’ are presented as free exercises of analysis and interpretation, “keeping in mind”, Jarauta points out, “that every look at art points us to a cultural history that has shown us in its complexity the different ways of writing history “.

“Ancient and modern,” he adds, “wanted to explain that relationship that allows us to understand art as one of the manifestations of any culture.”

In addition to commemorating the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s death, the first two conferences will revolve around the painter from Malaga: on Thursday, February 2, José Lebrero Stals, director of the Picasso Museum in Malaga, will talk about ‘El sur de Picasso’; and on Friday the 10th, Victoria Combalía, historian and critic, will talk about ‘Dora Maar and Picasso’.

Subsequently, on Tuesday, May 28, the conference ‘Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo: Creation without borders’ will take place, given by María del Mar Villafranca, art historian and former general manager of the supervisory board of Alhambra and Generalife.

The cycle will continue on Tuesday, March 7 with a lecture by Jarauta himself entitled ‘The aura of the classical world’, to close on Thursday, March 23 with the presentation ‘The distant vision. Acts of Romanticization’, by Javier Arnaldo, professor of art history at Complutense University, art critic and poet.

Outside this cycle, Jarauta, whose works mainly focus on the history of ideas, cultural philosophy, aesthetics and art theory, will host the conference ‘Rilke. At the centenary of the ‘Elegías de Duino’, which will take place on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 pm, also in the Aula de Cultura of the Cajamurcia Foundation. This work by Rilke is regarded as one of the foundational texts of 20th century poetry and thought.
