The 50th anniversary of the death of the painter Pablo Picasso is marked in Archena by an exhibition on display at the city’s museum from March 24 to April 27, presented this Saturday by Patricia Fernández, city councilor, through the poster representing this cultural event that is a tribute to the artist.
Patricia Fernández, who was accompanied by the councilor of culture, Mario Alcaraz, and the museum’s new coordinator, Luis J. Fernández, expressed the municipality’s commitment to culture “we are facing a historic event and Archena, as many Spanish cities, European and North American shows the important legacy of the artist».
Posters, catalogs and original photographs of the exhibitions and the postal correspondence between the Gaspar family and Picasso are some of the documents that we will be able to appreciate in the exhibition room “Inocencio Medina Vera” of the Archena Museum.
Immersed in what is considered a “Picassian” year for the 50th anniversary of the death of the genius of the visual arts of the 20th century, the Archena Museum will open an exhibition that explores, as a retrospective, the relationship between Picasso and the Sala Gaspar de Barcelona, site of the legendary 1960 exhibition, the first by this author in post-war Spain and revealing Picasso’s admiration for Barcelona.
Registered in Guinness for his prolific artistic work and in the Art Loss Register for the hundreds of his stolen works, Picasso remains one half a century later and without a doubt one of the most influential artists in the evolution of art. Due to its importance and artistic relevance, this exhibition has already scheduled the visit of several educational centers in the Murcia region.
