Rapper Bad Bunny sneaks into the ‘ranking’ of the highest paid artists

Date:

Topping the list is symphonic rock group Genesis, which made money last year by selling its music catalog for $300 million.

For Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, aka Bad Bunny, the price of the shopping basket should get him going. The Puerto Rican rapper is ranked 10th among the highest paid artists in the world, according to Forbes magazine, proving that the king of urban music earned $ 88 million (83 million euros) last year, putting him in the only Latino presence in the said classification. Bad Bunny throws it away and he can actually pull the checkbook. With so much money, it is now understandable why one of his albums was titled ‘YHLQMDLG: I do what I want’. Bad Bunny is the first rag picker who doesn’t wear rags and turns everything he sings into gold. His last two tours have been a cultural and financial triumph.

But compared to others, Bad Bunny is a piece of cake. The first in the table is Genesis. A progressive rock group in the ranks of the wealthiest? Well, yes. The reason is none other than that Concord Music Group bought its music catalog early last year, which is valued at 300 million, including image rights and marketing of items and other trinkets. The second on the list is Sting (210 million), who also made money from the sale of his musical production for an estimated amount of 300 million.

The former leader of Police is succeeded by Tyler Perry (175 million), a versatile potentate who combines his talents as a writer, comedian, filmmaker and actor with the facet of a gospel singer. Behind him is a successful couple: Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the successful animated series ‘South Park’, who carry 160 kilos. The duo’s money comes not only from the noble pursuit of the painting profession, although everything helps, but from the lucrative agreement signed with HBO, from their musical comedy ‘Book of Mormon’ and, above all, from a pact with Paramount that guarantees Parker and Stone the enviable tip of $935 million over six years.

Poor Brad Pitt, missing from the Forbes radar for fourteen years, is returning to the top 10. And he’s doing so thanks to European media conglomerate Mediawan who acquired the actor’s majority stake in what was his production company, Plan B. As an audiovisual businessman , Brad Pitt has a subtle nose for chasing the dollar, evidenced by winning an Oscar as producer of “12 Years a Slave.”

The Rolling Stones, seventh in the standings, live up to the saying ‘he had kept it’. They put 98 million in their savings for singing their usual hits and celebrating six decades together, for which they have mounted a tour as profitable as ‘European Sixty’.

In short, this year’s ten lucky ones collected a $1.35 billion loot, half of what last year’s ten landowners, including Jay-Z, Kanye “Ye” West, and Bruce Springsteen, pocketed. Only two of them repeat on both lists: Tyler Perry and the creators of “South Park.”
