There is a real sense of hope and optimism spreading across the country over the past few weeks as places gradually open up and we get more freedom to see our friends and family.

And while we can take a desperate look at the lock, there were a few positives, one of which really stood out in the challenge of the Ulster Renoir Museum.

The Ulster Museum reopened to the public this week with exciting new exhibits.

However, Renoir and the New Age: The Impressionist Works of Courtauld Gallery have been on display in the museum since November 2020, and due to the closure, the public has not been able to visit the gallery and enjoy one of Renoir’s greatest masterpieces, The Loge (1874).

But while we were missing out on the true museum experience, the #UlsterMuseumChallenge recreated the famous Impressionist painting with a 21st century touch, inspiring many of you to be creative and perhaps show off your hidden artistic talent.

We have a few records, all disguised as dogs and kids, and we haven’t forgotten the incredible talent of Belfast makeup artist Steve Lennox who used his body as a canvas.

Here are some key points going forward:

How do you forget Steve Lennox’s amazing makeup creativity when he joined the challenge of social media buzz and recreated four famous impressionist designs using makeup, even creating his own backgrounds for pictures.

Belfast makeup artist Stevie Lennox has joined forces with the #UlsterMuseumChallenge to re-create the stunning Impressionist art on her face and body.

He explained, “I used Snazaroo and Kryolan Aqua paints for the paints. Eye shadows for shades to create flawless blends and enhance specific colors.

“All the wallpaper was hand drawn on the wallpaper so the paper was thick enough not to rip. I tried the standard paper and it was very thick and torn. My staples were made of cereal boxes so the paper was thin enough to fold.

The good news for museum lovers is that we can now physically return to New York’s museums and enjoy the amazing works of art in all their glory at the Ulster Museum.

Visitors are reminded that advance reservations are required to guarantee admission to the museum.

Kathryn Thompson, Executive Director of NI National Museums, said, “We are pleased to reopen the Ulster Museum, Ulster Transport Museum and Ulster US National Park, in line with current government advice and guidance on public health. The Ulster Folk Museum will open a little later on June 12 due to operational activities. On site.

We recommend visitors to pre-book their times via our website, nmni.com, prior to visiting. I would like to thank the teams in our four locations who worked so hard to ensure safe and secure delivery. An enjoyable experience for all our visitors is also part of the ‘We are ready to go’ accreditation.

“We are excited to welcome guests in the coming weeks.”
