Italian director Jonás Carpignano won the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes festival last year with ‘Para Chiara’, after winning it in 2017 with ‘A Ciambra’, the first part of a trilogy about Calabria that is now ending. The film tells the story of a 16-year-old girl who is confronted with the world of the Calabrian mafia, the Ndrangheta, and tries to decipher it. Carpignano maintains the interplay between reality and fiction that he has developed throughout the trilogy: the characters live in the city where it is filmed, they are part of a real family and they are not professional actors.
