The courses, ushering in the cycle of the ‘BRMU Summer School’, take place at the end of June and the first two weeks of July

The Regional Library is launching a new activity: the ‘BRMU Summer School’. Two courses will be offered under this new initiative, one on the history of Spain and one on creative writing.

The History of Spain course aims to provide an overview of our past and of our cultural and artistic heritage. The course consists of 11 three-hour sessions from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The first two sessions, Tuesday, June 14 and Thursday, June 16, will be devoted to ancient history; the sessions on the 21st and 23rd are about medieval history; those of 28 and 30, will focus on modern history; on July 4 and 5 contemporary history will be discussed; and finally three sessions, on 7, 12 and 14 July, devoted to art history.

The blocks of ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary history will be conducted by Antonio V. Frey Sánchez, a doctor of history with several publications in specialized journals who has taught at the University of Murcia. Javier Nadal Iniesta, doctor of art history and professor at IES Juan Carlos I, will lead the sessions on art history.

On the other hand, during the Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of the first two weeks of July, the creative writing workshop ‘Narrative for writers’ is held under the direction of Cartagena author Ana Ballabriga. The course covers fundamental aspects of storytelling such as structure, character creation, dialogue and how the publishing market works.

Ballabriga has published seven novels, all in collaboration with David Zaplana; the latter, ‘The Eternal Desire’, has won the prestigious Auguste Dupin 2021 literary competition. As a distributor she works with the magazine ‘Zenda’ and makes videos about the noir and police genres. He directs the podcasts ‘Book a day’ and ‘Sin Fiction’, the latter for Alrevés publishers.

Places for the creative writing workshop are limited. Those wishing to register should send an email to the address ‘[email protected]’.

The sessions of the Spanish History course are freely accessible, without any form of prior registration or continuity of attendance.
