The ‘youtubers’ Pascu and Rodri will perform this Wednesday in the Murcia Parque Auditorium with their musical parodies
What do Aphrodite, Odin, Sun Wukong, Anastasia, Iron Man, Pinocchio, Gilgamesh, Mowgli, Bluebeard or the Little Mermaid have in common? That they have all passed through the hands of Pascu and Rodri, the two young people from Madrid behind the YouTube channel Destripando la Historia, which has almost five million followers since its creation in 2017. The duo, along with the rest of their band, will land in Murcia this Wednesday to perform in the region for the first time. The concert takes place in the Murcia Parque Auditorium within the program of Las Noches del Malecón.
Destripando la Historia started as a small project conceived by Álvaro Pascual, illustrator (1989), and Rodrigo Septién, musician (1991), two lifelong friends who decided to pool their talents to do something different. Through illustration and music, these two artists parody some of society’s most well-known characters and myths to tell their authentic stories, free from the tyranny of political correctness. This absence of filters has led them to reveal that Rapunzel’s mom, for example, switched her a few times because she felt like it during her pregnancy; or that Cinderella, in her Chinese version, was aided by a magical fish that was eventually killed by her stepmother. But there’s more! Thanks to them, the less educated audience in comics has been able to discover that Thanos, the rival of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is orchestrating his evil plan not to “help” the universe, but so that Death, a female entity, notices in the .
In these years, the Brothers Grimm of the YouTube platform, as some call them, have not missed the opportunity to explain to their fans the origin of festivities such as Valentine’s Day, which comes from the Lupercalia festival of the Roman Empire; Halloween, the germ of which comes from the Celts and their Samhain festival; Christmas, also of Roman origin, or the Day of the Dead in Mexico, which mixes Christianity with indigenous beliefs.
The songs of Pascu and Rodri have reached all corners of the planet, especially those who speak of the gods of Olympus (“Hades”, “Poseidon”, “Demeter”, “Hestia”, “Ares”, “Hera”, “Afrodita ‘, ‘Hermes’ and ‘Zeus’, the most listened to of all with 62 million reproductions) which allowed them to go on their first tour of Mexico and publish five books (‘The greatest villains, ‘The authentic princesses’, ‘The most gods locos’ , ‘The most epic heroes’ and ‘The most badass monsters’) along with Alfaguara. A format in which they park the music in order to immerse themselves in a quieter narrative, but no less dynamic and colorful for that.
Despite being born as an entertainment project, Destripando la Historia has become a curious cocktail of fun and reach that attracts everyone regardless of their age. That is why you can see parents with children, teenagers and adults at their concerts.
