Spain and RTVE offered to host the event from the start, but the organization has ruled it out
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) yesterday officially ruled out Eurovision 2023 being held in Ukraine due to the “current circumstances” in the country after the war and because it was unable to guarantee “the operational and security guarantees” necessary to Ukrainian public television is holding music contest
The organizers made the decision a month after the Kalush Orchestra’s triumph, when President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his interest in hosting the festival. Now the EBU is in talks with the BBC to bring Eurovision to the United Kingdom, a country that finished in second place with candidate Sam Ryder.
Spain and RTVE volunteered from the start to host the event in case Ukraine couldn’t. However, this option is already excluded.
