The Ferreño ballet took part in the III edition of the International Festival of Spanish Dance and Flamenco in the Cuban capital, which ended yesterday
The International Festival of Spanish Dance and Flamenco in Havana, Cuba, said goodbye to its third edition yesterday. The event honored the Region of Murcia and the Lo Ferro International Festival of Cante Flamenco for their work in spreading and defending this art.
During the week of the festival, which started on June 20, a delegation of the Ferreño Festival, led by the President of the Peña Flamenca Melón de Oro, Mariano Escudero, as well as various components and the director of the Lo Ferro Flamenco Ballet, Maria Dolores Ros.
The group presented the show ‘From the Zambra to the Café Cantante’ at the National Theater of Cuba. It is a work in collaboration with the Spanish Ballet of Cuba whose first movement, ‘La Zambra o boda gitana’, corresponds to the Granada-born flamencologist Ana María Ruiz. The second part, ‘Café Cantante’, was created in idea, script and choreography by María Dolores Ros and Cynthia Cano. These pieces were danced by Blanca Herreros and Antonio Muñoz, as well as members of the Spanish Ballet of Cuba.
This proposal, with historical undertones, aims to stage the history of the Zambra and the Café Cantante, with the live narration by Mariano Escudero, president of the Peña Flamenca Melón de Oro. The show is a journey through those spaces that, in the mid-nineteenth century and early twentieth century, were a picturesque place responsible for the professionalization of flamenco.
For the 42nd edition of the Lo Ferro International Festival of Cante Flamenco, the first dancers of the Spanish Ballet of Cuba will be present: Ricardo Quintana and Diancy Martínez.
