An exhibition collects the legacy of the Mandarache Award

Date:

The Regional Library of Murcia will host until August 31st a compilation of various works from the latest editions of the Cartagena competition

The Regional Library of Murcia (BRMU), in collaboration with the City Council of Cartagena, opened yesterday, Friday, an exhibition on the works selected for the prestigious Mandarache Award during the last five editions. The collection includes works from the Mandarache (general literature) and Hache (youth literature) awards; and also from the regional authors invited in each edition. The works are digitally accessible via QR codes that refer to the digital platform eBiblio Murcia or to the regional catalog of public libraries. This information makes it easier for the user to borrow the copy at the center closest to his home.

The exhibition is therefore designed as a visual example, but also as reading advice. The threefold goal of promoting reading is pursued, promoting the prestigious Cartagena contest to the rest of the region and supporting the Community’s authors through this important dissemination. The sample can be visited in the lobby of the Regional Library of Murcia from yesterday until August 31.

The Mandarache Project is a local program for reading education, promotion and promotion of book culture, organized since 2005 by the Ministry of Youth of Cartagena City Council. It has received major recognitions such as the National Award for the Promotion of Reading in 2014, LA VERDAD’s 2017 ‘The Best’ Award or the Laurel Award from the Association of Journalists of the Region of Murcia in 2021. The idea is replicated by different cities of the national territory.

Each year, a group of literature and education professionals select a series of works that are submitted to the criteria of a jury composed of thousands of young people from Cartagena between the ages of 12 and 30, who deliberate and ultimately vote for the winning work between three Hache- and Mandarache finalists, who form one of the largest literary juries in the world.
