Date:

This is the second work by ngeles Hernández, starring Hugo Silva, Irene Montalá and the young Zoe Arnao and Sergio Castellanos.

The Spanish-Argentine co-production ‘El faro’, the second work directed by Ángeles Hernández (‘Isaac’), defined as an intimate horror thriller with a female vision, was shot in various locations in Menorca.

Already in post-production, ‘El faro’ is being produced by David Matamoros for Mr Miyagi Films (‘El Hoyo’), starring Hugo Silva, Irene Montalá and the young Zoe Arnao and Sergio Castellanos.

The film tells of Lidia and her father, Pablo, returning to the family’s lighthouse after a tragic accident on a sailboat on the high seas. Pablo fears for Lidia’s fragile emotional balance, he worries about his daughter. Lidia, upset by her father’s lack of confidence, will discover that “something strange” is going on at the lighthouse, and that danger awaits them if they do not discover the truth hidden within. Lidia will have to face her worst fears and face the threat and monsters that hang over her, her father and the lighthouse before it’s too late.

Based on the usual techniques of the genre, ‘El faro’ tells a family horror drama about depression after the loss of a loved one, and especially how the pain becomes entrenched inside, causing the guilt to grow. A story that aims to highlight the light of truth through the relationship between a father and his teenage daughter. A vital and human film framed in a beautiful landscape, dark and bright at the same time, tells a story of reconstruction in which Lidia makes the transition from adolescent to adult and takes charge of her life.

Director Ángeles Hernández made her feature film debut with ‘Isaac’ (2020), a film that premiered in the United States, the United Kingdom and France, among others, and was selected at numerous international festivals such as IFFI Goa, Malaga Festival, Guadalajara Festival or the D’A of Barcelona

In addition to the island of Menorca, the locations of ‘El faro’ include Mallorca and Sant Pere de Ribes and Terrassa (Barcelona). Produced by Mr Miyagi Films, it is supported by ICAA, ICEC, IB3, Mallorca Film Commission and Consell de Turisme de Menorca, Wandermoon Finance in co-production with Argentina’s Vista Sur.
