The Municipal Archives of Murcia has presented the fifth edition of its calendar, corresponding to 2023, which pays tribute to the preserved hemerographic heritage with more than 40 illustrations that filled the pages of the Murcian newspapers of the last century.
The calendar gives full attention to the heritage of the municipal newspaper thanks to the collection of historical press that has been preserved, the oldest copies of which, according to municipal sources, date from the end of the 18th century.
“The Archives will once again be a showcase for our municipality’s documentary collections, of great historical and cultural value,” said Pedro García Rex, Deputy Mayor of Culture, Tourism and Sports.
Recognizing the interest that press illustrations arouse and given the variety and attractiveness of many of the covers that make up the titles, the Archive pays tribute to all those artists, painters, illustrators or cartoonists who filled these pages with color and beauty.
The 2023 calendar brings together in its two versions – desktop and wall – more than 40 illustrations by numerous artists and illustrators such as Gil de Vicario, Torrentbó, Muñoz Barberán, Párraga and María Dolores Andreo.
A walk through the graphic Murcia of the 20th century, from the first decades to the 20s to the 80s, in which you can enjoy the covers of the extraordinary songs of LA VERDAD, Levante, La Ilustración Levantina, Flores y Naranjos or El Including liberal.
1,500 desk calendars and 1,000 wall calendars will be distributed, which can be withdrawn free of charge, at the Municipal Archives of Murcia, located in the Almudí Palace. Distribution continues on December 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
