Just when you think Kate Grant has made it to the top, you go and break it again.
Modeling for profit, going to London Fashion Week (twice) and going to the United Nations are just some of the Cookstown model’s current accomplishments.
Now, at the age of 23, she is the first model with Down syndrome to be registered in Northern Ireland.
Kate told Belfast Live: “Oh my God, I was over the moon. I couldn’t believe it was my passion.
“I’m just overwhelmed. It doesn’t feel real. My life changes here.”
Kate’s journey to stardom began when she appeared on BBC1’s ‘Role of Models’, where she discussed her ambitions to become a model. She was then asked to represent Northern Ireland in a beauty pageant which she won at the age of 19, accelerating her fashion career.
He said, “I use my platform to spread awareness for people with disabilities or disabilities. I use my vote for people who don’t have a voice.”
Speaking about her daughter’s latest contract with Belfast-based ACA supermodels, Didier Grant said: “Kate’s campaigns to stand up for diversity and get involved in the fashion industry. Slowly it’s starting to shift visibly.
“I am really happy that companies now see the potential of people with diversity. This realization needs to normalize with leaders and decision makers.”
Although Kate had a large following from the start, her mother said there were also many comments from “narrow-minded people who thought people with disabilities should hide in the corner”.
“It showed people like Kate what people can do, not what they can’t do,” Deirdre said. “This is the key.”
When Kate was asked about London Fashion Week, she simply replied: “I’m talking, Avkancaldi. Words are hard to say. I was so shocked. I really love being there.”
She may be at the center of the fashion scene, but Kate will never forget Tyrone’s roots: walking the dogs of three families and helping her dad take care of farm animals.
The 23-year-old is excited to see what awaits her after registering. But at this point, she said, she was focusing on her health, skincare, and “just be me.”
“I look forward to working with them,” Kate said. I will give them everything.”
