Spain has raised requirements for anyone with Covid-19 to undergo testing or self-isolate.
The move went into effect overnight and is a huge incentive for tourists who plan to travel to Malaga, Barcelona or Madrid in the coming weeks.
Lifting the mandatory quarantine for people living in Spain means that people who test positive for Covid but have only mild symptoms or symptoms will not have to complete the seven-day quarantine as it was yesterday.
Spain is the first major EU country to lift mandatory cancellation and quarantine tests.
Instead, public health experts advise anyone with mild symptoms to:
- Limit their social interaction as much as possible.
- Avoid any contact with vulnerable people.
- Wear a face mask every time you leave the house.
However, the rules still apply for anyone who is weak, immunocompromised, pregnant, or over 60 years old.
The new rules will remain in place until the number of patients admitted to hospitals with Covid is at least 5%.
Earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said his country would move from “managing the epidemic to managing the disease, which we hope will be reclassified as endemic.”
