The student from Derry recently appeared at an outdoor exhibition in London.
The exhibition featured artwork in stores that closed during the pandemic as part of a canceled quality exhibit collection at the UUAL Wimbledon College of Art.
Dairy student Kiara Ford’s costume plays were performed at One New Change Mall across from St. Paul’s Cathedral.
He told MyDerry: “I was really proud that my work was on display. We have all worked so hard this year despite fighting the pandemic.
We had no access to facilities and had to work from home until last year. The exhibition was a great celebration of what we have accomplished and the audience’s reaction to our work has been very enjoyable.”
The exhibition used different spaces created due to the pandemic in central London.
Chiara said: “The exhibition was based on several empty shops in central London, as many shops appear to have closed during the pandemic.

Titania’s costume was displayed in a summer night dream in the closed window of the One New Change Mall. Other locations include Cannon Place, Buckingham Gate, Victoria Street, Leadenhall Market, Victoria Place, Zig Zag Building and Strand Palace Hotel.
“I also have some illustrations on display at the Strand Palace.”

Many alumni have missed exhibitions and theater performances this year. Chiara was part of this group. Wimbledon College of Art has used these open spaces to allow its students to hold public exhibitions far away throughout London.

Students and members of the public have been able to showcase their work in accordance with COVID restrictions.
For Kiara, the show was the culmination of her career efforts.
She said, “I started researching my designs last September and spent some time until June drawing, sampling, dyeing, embroidering, sewing and even welding to create my final costume and design.

“An enormous amount of thought went into every detail of my costume. My ultimate goal would be to find a job in film or television fashion.
“I think this exhibition has helped me bring my work into the world and I hope good things will follow. I also believe in my abilities and what I can create.”
