Now that we are in the pre-campaign for the local elections, it is time to expose urban problems such as traffic jams. As a resident of the capital of Murcia, I notice that traffic at the ramps becomes increasingly jammed during rush hour. It not only affects the quality of life of those of us who work (and as taxpayers pay the municipal coffers), but also the economy and the environment. Time lost in traffic has a significant impact on the productivity of people who are late for work or late for client appointments. Traffic congestion also impacts domestic economies, with drivers spending more time and gas, which increases transportation costs. They also discourage visitors from coming to our city. That’s not to mention the fact that vehicles stuck in traffic emit more exhaust fumes, contributing to increasing pollution. Traffic congestion is a very serious problem in Murcia and measures must be taken to address it. I suggest considering the creation of exclusive lanes for shared vehicles and improving the frequency of public transport. It must also be seriously analyzed whether removing lanes for bicycles will yield the desired result, as will closing streets in built-up areas. I trust that the candidates for the church board will take good note of this.
