If you surprise people on the street with this question, however, few will come up with a generally understandable explanation of the term. The problem is that everyone is still convinced that they know whether the thing and our neutrality go together or not.
1. The “European Sky Shield Initiative” (ESSI) is a satellite-supported protective shield against all types of incoming missiles – and also against aircraft. Even military laymen can understand that pan-European protection makes more sense. The alternative would be a kind of patchwork, on which each country tries to shoot down foreign cruise missiles – from Iran or Iraq, for example – in an uncoordinated manner.
