Of course, Kurz neither chose nor wanted the current process. Nowadays he’d probably rather shake hands with important people than be on trial. Nevertheless, you get the impression that Kurz is coming back into the public eye. Movie premiere here, Ho event and Insta pics there – no one who really wants some quiet time with their family is that busy!

It would be nice for him if he continues to enjoy the public eye. And if there are people who are interested in what a former chancellor does in his spare time: why not? The reason for his firing – that he wants to be with his child – just seems a bit stale. But the same applies here: he is a private individual, he can do whatever he wants!
Polarization is a fruitful thing
Polarization is essentially a fruitful thing in politics. The rule is: if you don’t polarize, you’re not interested. As long as the pro group is at least as large as the opponent group, the calculation works. It doesn’t hurt to gather fans, but also so-called ‘haters’ around you as politicians.

That’s probably his calculation when it comes to a possible comeback in politics. Even when he repeatedly claims he has no interest in returning, no one believes him! Kurz is a man who wants to be asked out. And if the election results in the next elections are bad for Karl Nehammer, the ÖVP might become very weak…
Acquittal still possible
To do this, Kurz would have to be acquitted at his trial. And that’s not entirely out of the question – even if some people won’t like to hear it. Then the way would be clear for an era 2.0. The other question is whether voters would be that enthusiastic about it…
