So the power comes from the socket. Thank you EU!

Date:

Okay, so traffic has to be carbon neutral. Or is it emission-free? The difference is apparently not clear to many involved in the current decision of the European Parliament, according to several broadcasts. Briefly explained: One helps the climate, the other is only on paper. In any case, from 2035 new cars that run on carbon-based fuel will no longer be allowed to be registered. Because electricity is good and eFuels (or other alternatives) bad. Are you okay, EU?

One has to ask what the purpose or background of this decision is. Is it really about saving the planet? About blowing less CO2 into the atmosphere and thus stopping global warming? Or are there other reasons not to plan the future with an open mind for technology?

Because just because electric cars don’t emit pollutants or carbon dioxide by law, doesn’t mean they don’t. The exhaust is elsewhere. Yes, of course we have a relatively large amount of green electricity in Austria. Top! But Austria is not Europe. Elsewhere, the situation is different. Coal is burned to generate electricity. And gasoline. And we have long agreed that nuclear energy is dangerous. All dead ends in which our world collides with a wall.

What speaks against the inclusion of eFuels?
They blamed eFuels for no reason at all. These are synthetic fuels that can replace petrol and diesel and are made from water and CO2 extracted from the air with renewable electricity. Yes, you need a lot of energy for that. So many that we couldn’t produce them in our latitudes. But that is not necessary, because the electricity can be generated where there is sufficient sun/wind and space. So the amount of energy is negligible. That would open up new energy sources, because electricity cannot be transported over unlimited distances, but fuels produced with it can.

In addition, you could use it to collect the current car stock (theoretically overnight) in a climate-neutral way (note: not emission-free!). You just have to want it all and encourage it accordingly. But wait, everything imaginable in terms of financing is already in electromobility! Of course the climate has to hold back!

Most manufacturers have already adapted to the ban and some brands are putting an end to combustion engines much earlier than necessary. For some, nothing better could have happened. For example, Volkswagen has mutated from Saul to Paul. With their fully electric strategy they make up for the image of the diesel scandal they are committing. Plus, because of the billions in payments they’ve brought in, they’d hardly get a chance to really develop in multiple ways. All inclusive. “All on one card” is, as it were, the last shirt. Of course, such companies will benefit if only e-mobility is ‘good’ and allowed, everything else is ‘bad’ and prohibited.

BMW, for example, can also be different. The people of Munich are open to whatever it takes. No wonder CEO Oliver Zipse (in his position as Association of European Automobile Manufacturers/ACEA) criticizes the demands of the EU parliament. Not least because of the difficult political and economic situation we currently find ourselves in: “Given the volatility and uncertainty we experience every day globally, any long-term regulation beyond this decade is premature at this early stage.”

But maybe I’m missing something. Perhaps the electricity actually comes from the socket with no emissions and no pollutants or CO2 were emitted during generation. Then battery cars will of course save the climate all by themselves and we only need to provide sufficient charging options. For everyone. Both in social housing and on highways along the highway. Then we introduce the four-day week so that we have enough time to refuel (okay, that was polemical and utopian). Then, yes, then all problems are solved and June 8, 2022 does not have to go down in history as Black Wednesday.
