Can the SPÖ chancellor party?

Date:

A few months ago, hardly anyone would have thought that the SPÖ could be in first place in polls. Even more exciting, she was even able to overtake the ÖVP, who was used to success! Could the SPÖ replace the ÖVP in the next election and become the chancellor’s party? It is possible!

The champagne corks should pop in the Löwelstrasse given the good poll numbers. After the historically worst result in a National Council election and then hanging around at just over 20% for a long time, the long-established traditional party is back on the field. And how is she! The thrill: You recently cracked the 30 percent mark. How could that happen?

What can Rendi-Wagner do better?
It seems that the Austrians would entrust Pamela Rendi-Wagner with more crisis competence than the others. Whether it was a corona strategy or a price ceiling: while the government was at odds, it set the pace early on. Of course, from the comfort of the opposition roll, it’s not too much of an art to demand something and distribute it generously. But if the government adopts and implements the proposals, it will still show that Rendi-Wagner has not too bad ideas.

It is also due to the weakness of others
Nevertheless, the result of the examination should not tempt the SPÖ to a breast that is too swollen. As beautiful as this podium success is for the comrades – it is not necessarily due to the strength of the SPÖ, but to a large extent to the weakness of the others. The government parties in particular have had to let go a lot here due to procrastination during the crisis. Picking up these percentage points – that’s no great art!

Even turquoises turn to red
Nevertheless, it is astonishing that some 200,000 voters are said to have switched from the Turquoise to the Red. In terms of content, this is hardly possible, even with a lot of imagination. But apparently, after the many scandals, resignations and the like, the ÖVP voters also seem to be looking for new refuge – although, for example, from an ideological point of view, the state and inheritance tax are hardly contradictory anymore.

Can red-green-pink come?
It will be exciting to see what the constellation could be after the next election. Rumor has it that an all-new attempt at red-green-pink could be a realistic scenario. After dusty traditional constellations, this could lead to encrusted structures and create a completely new policy. That should in any case be the claim after the significant loss in confidence.
