Date:

The European Forum Alpbach will be officially opened on Monday. Austria is represented, among others, by Chancellor Karl Nehammer, European Minister Karoline Edtstadler and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (all ÖVP). The motto of the forum this time is ‘New Europe’.

At the start, among other things, the war in Ukraine will be discussed and the president of neighboring Moldova, Maia Sandu, will be a guest. While Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer will speak at the opening, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen had to apologize this weekend for a walking accident.

Government representatives from Austria, such as Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and European Minister Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP), as well as from abroad are expected. Among them are European Commission Vice-President Joesp Borrell and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Unofficial opening on Sunday
The Forum Alpbach was unofficially opened on Sunday with the so-called “Tiroler Day” in the mountain village. The event will run until the beginning of September and is intended to discuss current issues and find interdisciplinary solutions.

The non-profit foundation was founded in 1945 and is mainly financed through participation fees and sponsorship. Usually up to 5000 people participate.
