In the Krone LIVE conversation with krone.tv presenter Jürgen Winterleitner, former FPÖ politician Andreas Mölzer explains the situation of his former party: “There is no debate about the chairman! Kickl is firmly in the saddle.” Yet the PVV faces a “strategic dilemma”…
The blue veteran sees a left-wing majority in the country coming through the “dismantling of the ÖVP”. Although the FPÖ would rise steadily in polls, there are said to be “little prospects for the government”. That calls for a basis for discussion, which the FPÖ has whitewashed in recent years with its tough opposition policies. He therefore sees a traffic light coalition coming after the next elections.
‘Any criticism of the FPÖ is now high treason’
Andreas Mölzer thinks this finding is not so well received by his former party colleagues. “In the meantime, even any positive criticism of the FPÖ is considered high treason,” said the former MEP. Criticism is no longer desirable, but in his eyes it is a strength if critical voices are also allowed in the party.
Internal quarrels “have a tradition”
Mölzer does not see the future of the FPÖ in danger: “Internal quarrels have a long tradition in the party.” Given the good polls, no one will “do the other parties the favor of bringing the dispute to the outside world,” he explains, adding, “Now solidarity is the order of the day!” Also because the party’s revival is due to Herbert Kickl, criticism of his party leadership is now being brushed aside.
Is Kickl’s career just getting started?
There is currently no prospect of an equally successful successor. Although the liberal state representatives would logically fit, but: “You have to want to become a party leader,” says Mölzer. Herbert Kickl will therefore remain with the PVV for a longer period of time. Because: “At 50 – that’s Kickl’s age – political careers are just starting”…
