Europark expansion – investigations against Schellhorn stopped

Date:

The Salzburg prosecutor’s office has closed the investigation against regional councilor Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens), the Salzburg prosecutor’s office confirms. The Spar Group had reported him in March in the Causa Europark extension for abuse of office.

As is well known, the Greens insisted on saying no to the planned expansion of the Europark. As a member of the state government, Schellhorn refused to sign the mall expansion plans. The result: a complaint for abuse of office. The Spar Group will reimburse them in March. Now the prosecution has stopped the investigation after appropriate investigations, confirmed Krone spokeswoman Elena Haslinger on Monday. The institution is not yet legally binding.

According to Haslinger, Schellhorn did not abuse his powers: “Because Schellhorn is allowed to make decisions within the scope allotted to him.” motives, but on the basis of documents,” explains the spokeswoman for the authorities. Schellhorn explained, among other things, the spatial planning objectives of the state and the negative attitude of the old city dealers.

The LHStv responsible at the time. Astrid Rössler (Greens) had also convinced her ÖVP colleagues in the government that the expansion would lead to a huge loss of purchasing power far beyond the city limits of Salzburg. Europark did not accept this and reapplied for a 14,000 square meter extension, which according to SES contains all necessary – and positive – reports. In December 2021, the Greens’ veto and consequent lack of the required unanimity principle hit rock bottom again.
