In the “Rainer Nowak Talk” on krone.tv, publicist and entrepreneur Maggie Childs, journalist Anneliese Rohrer and US-born lawyer Robin Lumsden discussed Trump’s superior victory.
Donald Trump’s landslide victory caused a global earthquake. And leave lots of questions. One of them is: how did it get to this point? “I wasn’t surprised by Trump’s victory, but I’m still disappointed,” publicist and Democrat Maggie Childs told Rainer Nowak on krone.tv. Anneliese Rohrer was shocked by the result. “It’s pure emotion. And can you explain to me that women choose someone who doesn’t care if you die during a miscarriage?”
There are many who say that a woman of color is not possible. Robin Lumsden, who said it was more about a woman in general, saw this more nuanced. Many people have the impression that they are doing better than four years ago. In addition, there are high prices for consumer goods. “And progressive California is seen as a different culture.” For years, people have been dissatisfied and can no longer afford as much, Childs helped. There is also the issue of migration. The gist was that Trump played both topics smartly.
There was also a wrong assessment of the hype surrounding Kamala Harris. “It was new, and anything new is exciting. Especially for the media. But in the end, she didn’t have enough time,” Maggie Childs said.
For the Democrats, the election was an “absolute bloodbath,” Lumsden summarized. In many cases they had not been able to make a suitable offer. And – they would have made things difficult for themselves with a woman at the top.
What’s next for Trump?
Rohrer: “He could fire critics in the government and prosecute internal enemies.” Trump will be convicted several times, lawyer Lumsden predicts. But even if he is in prison, he can still be president. The Constitution actually says that. “Trump said a lot during the election campaign. But his agenda is to serve his rich friends and he wants to be loved.”
What Trump means for Europe?
The US looks much more to Asia than to Europe. “We in Europe must hold on tight no matter what. Because the Americans will fiercely defend their interests,” says Lumsden. If Europe wants to remain a player in the long term, it must invest more in its own security and strength.
