Dog in Great Need – “We Can’t See ‘Cookie’ Suffering Anymore”

Date:

Dog “Keks” was rescued from an Italian concrete kennel and ended up with the Vorarlberg Scheffknecht family in Feldkirch. Now he needs an artificial hip. This surgery is very, very expensive, but probably his last chance.

The Scheffknecht family from Feldkirch adopted the puppy “Keks” from a German animal protection organization about a year ago. “We wanted to give a dog in need a new home.” The German animal protection association “pro-canalba” frees dogs from the so-called canile in Italy – terrible concrete kennels, which are also called “dog hell”.

At that time, “Keks” was a little puppy who knew nothing but concrete. He walked on grass for the first time at Herbert and Adrienn’s home and was showered with affection from the whole family – son Ben especially fell in love with his new playmate right away.

It was noticed that Biscuit was very small and poorly developed for his age. Thanks to the best food and lots of love, he quickly skyrocketed and grew to a stately size. All was well, then the great shock: after a walk with Master Herbert, the young dog only howled in pain.

Shortly afterwards, the vet diagnosed an inflammation of the bone wall. This was the beginning of a real martyrdom for “Keks”: “Especially in the time when he should have got to know the world, he only suffered. He had a constant fever and had IVs,” recalls Adrien.

“Cookie” Needs Life-Saving Surgery
When his condition had improved after three months, he could finally be X-rayed. The next shock followed, as the extent of the disease was greater than expected: “Keks” suffers from severe hip dysplasia and needs an artificial hip on both sides. His hip bones are not in a socket like a healthy dog - no, they are not there at all, the whole weight is only carried by the already underdeveloped muscles.

After the bad findings, the Scheffknechts looked for treatment options. The result: “Cookie” needs life-saving surgery, which is very expensive. The family, who has already invested thousands of euros in previous treatments, must raise more than 10,000 euros to save their loved one.

Because they do not have the money on the high side, the Scheffknechts are now reaching for the last straw and have made an appeal for donations. “We don’t want to leave any stone unturned to help him!” The Scheffknecht family hopes to be able to save “Keks” in this way and give him a dog-worthy life: “It hurts your soul to see how he suffers. That’s why this phone call is our last chance!”
