Energy crisis continues – Mahrer calls for new billions in aid for companies

Date:

The explosion in energy prices is not “only” painful for consumers, it is a dramatic situation for many companies. Economic Chamber President Harald Mahrer (ÖVP) therefore quickly calls for new billions in support for companies in an interview with the “Krone”.

“The outrage of the companies is louder than in the days of Covid. Whether a small or large company: the multiplication of energy costs is a threat to the survival of the company. It is about economic survival and many jobs,” emphasizes Mahrer in the “Krone” interview. According to Mahrer, the government must help quickly and unbureaucratically, “billions are needed for the coming months”, and as quickly as possible.

“No time for complicated models”
There is no time for complicated models, everything has to be fast and unbureaucratic. Mahrer: “It doesn’t matter whether it concerns metal production, chemicals, baking, carpentry or another industry: the tenfold increase in energy costs can no longer be absorbed and help must come quickly.”

“EU has finally woken up”
There will be a European solution to help in our own country. Mahrer: “Now the EU has finally woken up.” There will be a new pricing.

Just last week, the debate over Corona economic aid in Austria continued, as it was the highest per capita in the EU according to Eurostat data. The processing agency for the Corona company assistance, COFAG, has previously received massive criticism in a crude report from the Court of Auditors. A final report is still pending.
