The gas supply stop will last until September 3. Russia explained that once the work is completed, gas flow will resume at a level of 33 million cubic meters per day, 20 percent of effective capacity.
Russian gas company Gazprom this Wednesday began shutting down the gas flow supplied to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline that will last three days, for “maintenance work”.
At 4:00 a.m. in Moscow (3:00 a.m. in the Basque Country), a gas supply shutdown through the gas pipeline began and will last until September 3, according to the Russian agency TASS.
From Gazprom, they qualify the suspension as necessary for preventive maintenance at the reception point in the German Greifswald.
The Russian giant already explained on August 19 that the only operating pumping station will be temporarily shut down and that, once the work is completed, the gas flow will resume at a level of 33 million cubic meters per day.
This amount corresponds to 20 percent of the effective capacity. According to Bloomberg, the pipeline can carry up to 167 million cubic meters per day.
Germany relies on this gas pipeline to cover internal demand after another alternative project, the ‘Nord Stream 2’, has been put on hold due to the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February and the disagreements between the German parties over a possible opening. .
Yesterday, French energy company Engie reported that Russian giant Gazprom had cut gas supplies, which had already fallen significantly since the start of the war in Ukraine, due to disagreements between the parties over the application of some contracts.
