After the brutal knife murder of a 40-year-old Bosnian in Marchtrenk in Upper Austria, the police had many questions for the alleged main perpetrator – a 40-year-old Montenegrin – and a 19-year-old Serb. The motive for the act could now be clarified: the man would have stabbed his colleagues out of jealousy.
Through intensive investigation, questioning of witnesses and the suspects and the autopsy result, it was established that the three colleagues were initially in the getaway vehicle for the crime. The two 40-year-olds got out in Marchtrenk on their way to the construction grating warehouse and the suspect suddenly stabbed the victim five times with a knife. The 19-year-old, who would have only marginally noticed the act, drove forward a bit to avoid an oncoming witness.
They parted ways in the area
The 40-year-old suspect then ran after him, jumped into the car and instructed him to drive to a bar in Traun. They sat there for a while until the 40-year-old suddenly left the bar, left the 19-year-old behind and fled alone in the getaway vehicle towards Linz. At around 08:50, the getaway vehicle on its way from Traun to Linz was spotted by the police and eventually the EKO Cobra was able to gain access to it.
The 19-year-old was released
According to the current state of the investigation, jealousy may have been the motive for the crime – since the main suspect refused to testify during the interrogation on Saturday, this is currently being intensively checked. The murder weapon, a knife, was found in the getaway vehicle by investigators. The Wels prosecutor’s office ordered the admission of the main suspect to Wels prison.
The arrest of the 19-year-old driver has now been lifted because there is no urgent suspicion against him. However, he was arrested under the Aliens Act. The decision on the imposition of pre-trial detention will be made tomorrow around noon.
