Two shocking blue light accidents within a few hours in Carinthia: In St. Veit an der Glan, a 22-year-old driver cut a bend and collided head-on with a patrol car. Three injured! In Villach an ambulance hit a young pedestrian.
Due to the extremely high speed of the car coming towards her on the road, the 36-year-old police officer had no chance to get out of the way on Wimitzer Landstrasse on Friday around 11 p.m.: while cutting the left bend, the 22-year-old “ghost driver” crashed head-on into the patrol car without braking.
The accident driver, the policewoman and her uniformed colleague (25) in the passenger seat were injured to an unspecified degree and were all taken to the Klagenfurt clinic. The alerted fire brigades of St. Veit an der Glan and Obermühlbach-Schaumboden attended to the scene of the accident and the vehicle wreck.
Horn not heard due to headphones
Only about an hour later, shortly after midnight, the next terrible accident involving flashing lights occurred – this time in Villach: During an emergency ride, the driver of an ambulance missed a young pedestrian who was about to cross Willroiderstrasse towards the bus station due to the artificial lighting.
The 20-year-old, on the other hand, couldn’t hear the follow-up horn because she was listening to music with headphones. And so the woman from the Villach-Land district was hit by the blue light car at full speed on the protective path and thrown across the road. The 20-year-old was taken to nearby Villach State Hospital with serious injuries. An alcohol test on the 25-year-old driver of the emergency vehicle was negative.
