The Basque Government and the Commonwealth of Iparralde celebrate Next September 8 in Donibane Garazi the International Day of the Basque Diasporawith an institutional act of “recognition of the cultural reality that unites Basques abroad on both sides of the Pyrenees”.

The Secretary-General for Foreign Action of the Basque Government, Marian Elorzathe CEO of cross-border, European and international cooperation of the Commonwealth of Iparralde, Joseba Erremundeguyand the mayor of Donibane Garazi, Laurent Inchauspepresented the memorial act this Wednesday.

For the fifth consecutive year, an institutional event will celebrate the International Day of the Basque Diaspora, this time in a joint event between the Basque Government and the Commonwealth of Iparralde as “recognition of the cultural reality that unites Basques from both sides of the Pyrenees ” with the aim of “revealing and recognizing the importance that Basque emigration has had and continues to have”.

As they have explained, this year there will be events in various ‘Euskal Etxeak’ around the world that will be confirmed these days and will be part of a “World Agenda” to be announced on September 8. will be celebrated events in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Spain, United States, France, Peru, United Kingdom and Uruguayamong other things.

The institutional act will take place on September 8 at 6:00 PM in the Donibane Garazi covered market and will be chaired by the Lehendakari, Inigo Urkulluand the President of the Commonwealth of Iparralde, Jean-Rene Etchegaray.

In addition, it is assisted by the mayor of Donibane Garazi, Laurent Inchauspé and other authorities from both sides of the Bidasoa.

It is also expected that the confluence of families with direct relationship with the Basque diaspora, representatives of culture, academia, politics and social organizations, as well as citizens in general who want to participate in this event.
