Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP), who has been on sick leave for more than two months, will return to office. That said the deputy state chairperson of the ÖVP, Martina Rüscher, Friday in the summer talk “Vorarlberg today” of the ORF. Until now, there had been only speculation about Wallner’s return. Rüscher did not mention a time.
Wallner is on the mend, she emphasized: “We are all confident that he will take over again in a few weeks. We are really looking forward to it. We cannot say the exact time yet, he will decide then. .” But it is certain that he will remain governor, “from my personal point of view, he is also the best for this position.”
It was the first time after Wallner went on sick leave on June 22 that his return as governor had been officially assured. Although there was already speculation in mid-August that he could return to office in October, no one has officially confirmed this.
“Unusual efforts” were cited as the reason for Wallner’s sick leave. In addition to Covid and the consequences and inflation, the turbulence within the party that resulted from the Wirtschaftsbund affair was also meant. Wallner himself was targeted by the judiciary for allegedly asking for advertisements for the Wirtschaftsbund-Zeitung and promising political accommodation in return, which the governor has always vehemently denied.
