All results – SPÖ wins the elections in Krems, but loses votes!

Date:

Eight lists competed for a total of 19,904 votes in the elections in Krems an der Donau in Lower Austria on Sunday. A first look at the first extrapolation shows that many Kremsers steered clear of the ballot box – and the results are likely to come with little surprises.

Incumbent SPÖ mayor Reinhard Resch surprised everyone with the decision to set the election date on the last day before school starts. It was 1955 when Krems an der Donau last held elections at such an early time of the year.

The election results only partially prove that the mayor is right. The deepest downside was reached yesterday in the election turnout. Only about 58 percent of the 19,904 eligible voters cast their votes. Resch managed to get 40.9 percent of the vote, but clearly lost votes, as did the ÖVP, which had to accept a new negative record with 23.3 percent. The FPÖ was almost able to repeat the “blue miracle” of the last election and remains at around 14.6 percent!

Big excitement among small parties
Tension was especially high among the five smaller lists, all of which had to compete to join the city council. As expected, the Krems Left City Movement (KLS) made it. Lead candidate Wolfgang Mahrer and comrade-in-arms Nikolaus Lackner have secured their two mandates. A third mandate was also reached.

Pinks manage to move in
The Pinken will also have a say in the city council in the future. The Neos (NIK) around list leader Dominic Heinz even achieved double-digit results in some districts. The Greens and the list of people, freedom and fundamental rights just made it. Both were mandated. The Green Future list did not make it. relaunch coalition

New government needed
The result is particularly remarkable when it comes to the distribution of mandates. With the KLS mandates, the SPÖ has “only” 20 mandates. A new, old left-wing government would immediately need the Greens. “We are happy with the second best result in history. We’ll start the talks tomorrow,” Resch announced on election night. But you weren’t really in a party mood.
