Pedro Sanchez and King Mohammed VI reaffirmed the “new stage” in a joint declaration between Spain and Morocco that restores relations between the two countries.
During a visit to Rabat by the President of the Executive and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Albares, the Sanchez and the Moroccan monarch agreed on a new road map. The document includes the gradual opening of the borders, the “complete normalization of the movement of people and goods”, which will be restored in an “orderly manner”, as well as the “maritime passenger links”. Although the statement did not explicitly mention Ceuta and Melilla, Sanchez assured that “territorial integrity is guaranteed.”
The statement said that “talks on airspace management will begin.” A summit is also scheduled for the end of the year, with President and King Mohammed VI “appointing a committee responsible for carrying out the text” for “three months”.
The Spanish leader’s visit to Rabat was carried out with “great sincerity” between the two sides, according to government sources, who had already taken “concrete actions” that included “all matters of common interest”.
