Pact presented – “shake hands”: black-blue in Salzburg fixed

Date:

Now it is highly official: Salzburg will have a black and blue state government. After the approval of the party committees on Thursday evening, Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) and his future deputy Marlene Svazek (FPÖ) presented the future government and its work program on Friday. Haslauer felt compelled to once again explain his motives for this controversial coalition.

Right from the start, the governor asked for understanding that the negotiations had been conducted in complete secrecy. Over the past three weeks, people had been “very frugal in their communication policy”, as he put it nicely. The reason was that a “protected space” was needed for the “very difficult government formation”.

However, the result is now a coalition pact of some 60 pages, with which to move forward and ensure “stability and security”, the ÖVP governor stressed. The big problems that black and blue want to tackle come as no surprise: lack of nursing staff, affordable housing, energy self-sufficiency and digitization. He also called the 2025 World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm a “central joint project”.

“Laying the foundation for a new collaboration”
The program allowed “to lay the foundations for a new collaboration,” says Haslauer. In fact, after the “very violent” election campaign, he had “planned something else”, namely an ÖVP/FPÖ/SPÖ “Alliance for Salzburg”. However, this failed due to the opposition of the SPÖ, a coalition with only the SPÖ was “very risky” because of only one overhanging mandate, a coalition with the SPÖ and the Greens would have been “an impasse” because the Greens were talking about many issues not even. could it be.

With the FPÖ, on the other hand, there are many things in common, Haslauer said that they “shake hands”. This makes Salzburg the third state after Upper and Lower Austria with a black-blue government. For the first time since the abolition of proportional representation in 1999, the FPÖ took over government responsibility in Salzburg.

Sworn in on June 14
In addition to Haslauer and Svazek, the future team on the ÖVP side consists of State Councilors Stefan Schnöll (future LHS deputy) and Josef Schwaiger as well as State Councilor Daniela Gutschi and on the FPÖ side the Mayor of Radstadt and former National Councilor Christian Pewny and Martin Zauner. The four ÖVP and three FPÖ government members will be sworn in on June 14 at the constituent meeting of the newly elected state parliament.
