The general secretary of the PSE has assured that it would be “very good news” to reach a “broad agreement” on the energy transition. In this sense, he is surprised by EH Bildu’s “change of attitude”. “What has changed?” he asked.

Since the project of the Norwegian company Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, to build two wind farms on the border between Álava and Gipuzkoa with an investment of more than 90 million euros, the reactions have been relentless. Today the General Secretary of the PSE, Eneko Andueza, talked about it, at the Euskadi Irratia microphones. The socialist leader welcomes the project and emphasizes that the PSE has “always opted for renewable energy sources”.

The socialist leader believes that “a broad agreement” on the energy transition would be “very good news”, without making it clear whether that possible pact would be close. “It would be very positive to come to an agreement. The PSE has been arguing for a change in the energy model for some time,” he says. In this sense, he assures that there are no differences of opinion within the PSE on this issue, despite the fact that the Zumarraga City Council — where the PSE holds the mayor’s position — has taken a stand against the wind farm planned between the Oleta and Izazpi. “We ask that the law is complied with and that it needs to be investigated,” he clarifies.

On the other hand, he is surprised by the “change in position of some” who “seem to be in favor of this kind of project now”, referring to EH Bildu’s statements. “What has changed? That it now comes from a Norwegian company and that company is public? The model has not changed,” he clarifies.

The general secretary of the PSE also discussed the processing of new temporary taxes for energy companies and banks. He emphasizes that in this case it is irrelevant who should collect that money, the government of Spain or the Basque haciendas. “The most important thing is that the processing of the tax is approved,” and “later we’ll see where it goes.” It acknowledges that, despite the fact that the Basque haciendas have their own system, the path chosen by the Spanish government in this case requires “a special legal framework”.

As for the discrepancies with the PNV, he is adjusting them “within the norm” and has responded to criticisms of the PNV spokesperson in Congress, Aitor Esteban, against Andueza for his stance on the issue of transfers. The Jeltzale leader described it as “shameful” that the leader of the Basque socialists said the transfers “are not a priority”, to which he responded today in the same tone: “We are used to Esteban’s statements, he always says ugly things. What I am saying is that the matches are not essential to face the harsh reality we live in today. We have other priorities. That does not mean that the transfers should not be carried out”.
