EH Bildu’s general coordinator, Arnaldo Otegi, this Saturday reiterated the coalition’s proposal to: intervene in the energy and real estate marketsand specified that said intervention “must come” as far as the basic rights of the people are guaranteed“.

In a speech to the political conference that EH Bildu held in Bilbao this Saturday, Otegi indicated that “in a few weeks” this formation will present an initiative for the maintenance of the welfare state, which he has defined as “Proposal for the Defense of the Large Working Social Majorities”.

This proposal includes a decal of measures that “need to be taken urgently” to “stop” the current economic and social situation, and is based on two considerations: “Either the production and consumption model, or the planet offers no resistance; or radically change it redistribution of wealthor this can’t stand it,” he said.

“People’s lives cannot depend on the interests of the market, because oligopolies are owed to their shareholders, but we owe ourselves to the people,” he noted, and for this reason, among all the measures, he emphasized the intervention of the energy and real estate markets.

Otegi has emphasized that the current screenplay is discussed “with a certain drama” and that “a dark future” is predicted, and in light of these views he has defended that “you can stop and change course”.

“What has brought us here are the mistakes of those who defend the interests of the economic and political elite, both in the EU and in the Basque Country; they are responsible for the moment we have reached,” he said.

He added that the nationalist left is “willing” to face this moment and “stop pushing the difficulties and talk about alternatives. We want to send a message of calm, serenity and optimism,” he stressed.

That message of hope, as he has said, will be conveyed on the streets in the demonstration convened by the coalition for the next November 12 in Bilbao and paraphrasing a song by Manu Chao, he emphasized that the definition of this march will be “the next station: hope”.
