While an IMAD poll by “Krone” recently predicted a crash of the ÖVP in the upcoming state elections on Sunday, Tyrolean National Council member Franz Hörl (ÖVP) expects only minor losses. With a statement he causes a stir.
If the last state elections in Tyrol resulted in a clear electoral success with 44 percent for the ÖVP, this picture is likely to change according to the latest polls. Accordingly, the ÖVP could drop to around 25 percent with top candidate Anton Mattle. In an interview with the ORF magazine “Hohes Haus”, Hörl does not want to know about these values: “I assume that we will earn 37 to 38 percent, because I believe that Toni is the right candidate.”
He also expresses his confidence in Mattle and assumes that the Tyroleans do not want experiments at this point. “We have ruled this country since World War II and this country is impressive. We own Tiwag, housing promotion and Hypo Bank.”
This statement caused a stir and misunderstanding on social media (see above). Hörl also referred to leeway that “the population sometimes takes it for granted.”
