Serious allegations – financial thriller in Graz: FPÖ excludes city council

Date:

Graz’s FPÖ remains in turmoil, the crime story of misappropriated club funds and very high costs continues. An old councilor has now been kicked out of the club and has filed a report. Spicy: The leading city party chairman distances himself from this step!

A financial thriller has kept the Graz FPÖ in suspense for a year: after the local elections were lost in September, outstanding bills were apparently settled, documents about very high and incomprehensible expense reports from the party leadership were made public. The old deputy mayor Mario Eustacchio and club president Armin Sippel had to resign.

It was also announced that the former club director would have embezzled up to 700,000 euros in money. But he would have repaired the damage. The prosecutor’s office in Klagenfurt is investigating the three persons mentioned, who are presumed innocent.

Whereabouts of more than a million euros unclear
The leadership of the Graz FPÖ was taken over by Claudia Schönbacher as city councilor and Alexis Pascuttini as club president. They want a fresh start and promised transparency – as a report from the accountant at the party congress in March showed, the whereabouts of more than a million euros are unclear! The party chairman of the city is the MP Axel Kassegger, he is considered a representative of the Eustacchio camp.

“Serious misconduct identified”
Now for the next bang: As the FPÖ Graz recently confirmed, a former city councilor was banned from the club. Specifically, it says in a statement: “During the tendering of documents for the legal audit of the free city council club for the fiscal year 2021, new, previously unknown findings came to light, which immediately went to the Klagenfurt prosecutor’s office.”

In particular, serious misconduct by the city council was found, “which is presumably relevant to criminal law and the Public Prosecution Service has been asked to review these new findings”. The FPÖ now only has four representatives in Graz, but it will retain club status.

Spicy: party chairman Kassegger states through a spokesperson to “Krone” that this step was taken “without consultation” with him and therefore with the party leadership. It was a pure decision of the city council club. This distance reveals a deep rift between the two camps within the city party.

Exclusion from the party is not yet an issue
Will the councilor in question also be expelled from the party? That is still open. State party secretary Stefan Hermann took a stand and tried to close ranks: “Now it is up to the city party to discuss how to proceed within the FPÖ-Graz. According to the findings of the city party, the state party is advised in the responsible committees if necessary. Since the approximately 300 FPÖ municipal councils in Styria do a good job every day in their communities, we are far from artificial alarm and will not let this be carried to FPÖ Styria from outside.”
