Choice in Tyrol – Mattle plays poker between ÖVP/SPÖ or ÖVP/Green/NEOS

Date:

In Tyrol there will most likely be a two-party coalition of ÖVP and SPÖ or a three-party coalition of ÖVP, Greens and NEOS. He will “soon” invite these parties to a round of exploration before a final decision on coalition negotiations is made, ÖVP chairman Anton Mattle told reporters on Wednesday evening after the first round of talks in the Innsbruck manor.

With the Greens and NEOS to be investigated in a round of three, Mattle still keeps a three-party coalition open and referred to Monday’s party executive decision, according to which he had the power to both investigate and negotiate a two-party coalition. and a tripartite variant. The top black candidate called a three-party coalition, such as a possible ÖVP/SPÖ coalition, a “realistic variant”. Mattle admitted in his own words that the black presidents of the chambers of commerce, labor and agriculture had again spoken out on Wednesday against a three-party coalition, but referred to that board decision. Black and red together have 21 mandates in the 36-member state parliament, the three-way variant has a narrow majority of 19.

List Fritz probably out of the game
List Fritz is almost out of the game for a three-way variant. During the conversation with Mattle, he came up with a “no-go” for the construction of the Kaunertal power station and a law on the return of common property for the benefit of agricultural communities. Apparently too much for Mattle. The black frontman spoke of “big hurdles” and demands that you do not just “walk over”. That is why internal parties within the party will advise whether a second round with the Fritz list is useful. In any case, he considers the Kaunertal power station to be an “essential element for the energy transition”. Mattle no longer wants to raise the issue of community ownership because there is “consensus” in the communities and they don’t want to create new ones in the face of a multitude of issues.

Mattle has not yet presented a concrete timetable for polls and coalition negotiations. However, he wanted to get into the “area of coalition negotiations” “as soon as possible”.

“Wedding altar after shadow boxing”
The FPÖ was out of the game from the start. The ÖVP leader had ruled out a coalition with the PVV during the election campaign. FPÖ chairman Markus Abwerzger, along with federal councilor Christoph Steiner and secretary general Patrick Haslwanter, were invited to Mattle for an “initial discussion”. After a 30-minute talk in Mattle’s office, Abwerzger said the ÖVP apparently continued the “exclusion policy.” This is “incomprehensible”, said the head of the second strongest party. In front of journalists, Abwerzger firmly assumed that black and red would come: “Now there’s going to be a little shadow boxing and then they’ll walk down the aisle together”.
