SPÖ deputy club leader Jörg Leichtfried criticized Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler for the Lobau tunnel and the CO2 tax. And in “Club 3” (see video above) he calls for a gas price brake like in Germany.
Officially he is deputy club president of the SPÖ. The voluminous term is best translated as follows: Jörg Leichtfried is number 2 behind SPÖ boss Pamela Rendi-Wagner. In the “Club 3” interview (“profil”, “Kurier”, “Krone”), which will be broadcast on Saturday, he is tough on the government – especially the Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens). Leichtfried, who was also Minister of Transport, considers the re-evaluation of the Lobau tunnel an “attack on parliamentary democracy. Because there is a valid legal situation in this question. If you want to do something different, you have to change the laws.”
How did this fierce accusation come about? The fact is: Parliament has ordered the federal government to build the Lobau tunnel. “Gewessler refuses to make legislative proposals that match their intentions.” If Leichtfried took government responsibility after the next election, he would give the green light for the Lobau tunnel. Leichtfried quickly demands a gas ceiling from the government. Germany has shown how it can be done.
CO2 tax has become a fake campaign
“We have put a concept on the table that costs about nine billion euros,” says Leichtfried. The anti-inflation measures are just “plaster campaigns”, the concept of the Reds, on the other hand, is a real “pressure bandage”. The liberalization of the electricity and gas markets “didn’t work” for Leichtfried. Leichtfried describes Gewessler’s carbon tax as a “fake campaign”. “We now have an increase in gasoline from eight to nine cents per litre. Ten cents more no longer has a guiding effect. Those who absolutely must drive now only pay more.”
