The FPÖ has so far invested significantly more in its candidate Walter Rosenkranz’s presidential election campaign than the Greens have spent on incumbent Alexander Van der Bellen. This is apparent from the large donation notifications published by the candidates on Sunday.
- The FPÖ appears with 2.2 million euros.
- The Greens spent 1.5 million euros.
- However, Van der Bellen also reports 600,000 euros in private donations. He has – including donations from the Greens – a total of 2.1 million euros.
- Tassilo Wallentin is backed by multimillionaire Frank Stronach. According to Stronach, Wallentin donated 148.00.64 euros.
- The other minor candidates – Dominik Wlazny, Gerald Grosz and Michael Brunner – have not published any donations as far as can be seen on Sunday morning.
Compared to 2016, the ratio between large and small donations at Van der Bellen has been reversed this year: In the highly polarized election campaign against FP man Norbert Hofer, Van der Bellen received the majority of his donations from small donors. This time, the major donors are clearly leading the way. Especially supporters of the last election campaign such as media manager Gerhard Zeiler and the private foundation of the construction industrialist Hans Peter Haselsteiner with 50,000 euros each, as well as the Styrian IV president Stefan Stolitzka. Two companies in his area contributed a total of 80,000 euros.
There are also in-kind donations for various campaign gifts. 10,080 quarter-litre bottles from Almdudler (11,340 euros) and 200,000 euros of cress seeds from organic seed trader Samen Maier (45,200 euros). According to the report, the 1020 small donations of less than 3,500 euros raised 209,004.8 euros for Van der Bellen.
According to his spokesperson, there are no private donations for Walter Rosenkranz.
