Mayor Eneko Goia has announced that the Consistory will probably come to a purchase agreement with the Ministry of Defense before the final decision of the Supreme Court is known.
The City Council of San Sebastián and the Government of Spain have appealed to the Supreme Court against the Supreme Court of the Basque Country (TSJPV) ruling on the Loiola barracks. The TSJPV ordered the protection of the Loiola barracks and prevented its demolition.
In the words of Mayor Eneko Goia it is “probable” that the Ministry of Defense and the Consistory will announce a purchase agreement before the resolution is known of the Supreme Court. “I think the agreement is close,” he said.
At a press conference, Goia informed journalists that last Tuesday the deadline to appeal the TSJPV ruling on the Loiola barracks expired and that both the Consistory and the Spanish government have appealed.
Goia has pointed out that the arguments from both sources are “different” but “complementary”, as the executive refers to the fact that “there is a ‘de facto’ cataloguing” of the barracks without being able to participate in this process; the municipal council invokes the Special Plan for the Protection of Built Heritage (PEPPUC) and the municipal “competences” in urban matters.
