The Polisario Front cuts off contacts with the Spanish government

Date:

The Polisario Front has decided to suspend contacts with the Spanish government in response to a recent joint declaration between the governments of Madrid and Rabat to normalize relations.

A statement from the Spanish Polisario Front delegation, released this morning and dated in Bir Lehlu (Western Sahara), indicates that the decision was made after the support of Pedro Sanchez’s government was “an illegal proposal by the Moroccan occupier”. “Which seeks to annex the Western Sahara by force and to disregard the inalienable rights of the Saharan people to self-determination and independence.”

Polisario recalls that the Spanish state has a responsibility to both the people of the Sahara and the United Nations, as the ruling power of the territory, “whose responsibilities are not defined.”

The measure, he continues, intends to “separate the use of the Sahara issue in the context of a deplorable relationship with the occupier” and until it upholds international legitimacy resolutions “recognizing the right of the Saharan people to self-determination. “Respect the borders of their country as they are recognized internationally.”

Last Thursday, Spain and Morocco entered a new phase in relations during a meeting in Rabat between King Mohammed VI and the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez. Western Sahara is an autonomous region within Morocco.
