Paris has asked Brussels to remain closed another six months the border crossings between Iparralde and Hegoalde, as reported by Euskadi Irratia.

Thus, Europe will despise the request of the Basque government and the Commonwealth of Iparralde this week.

The President of the Commonwealth, Jean-Rene Etchegarayand the lehendakari, Inigo Urkullu, made a clear request during the Mugaz Gaindi meetings last Tuesday: “Open borders.” The French Secretary of State for Territorial Policy was also present at these meetings.

Etchegaray and Urkullu assured that “it is time to return to normalcy”.

If Brussels does not say otherwise, the eight crossings that separate Euskal Herria will in any case remain closed Until April Next year.

The steps mentioned are closed since December 2015; first Paris claimed “terrorist threats”, then the pandemic situation in 2020. Thus, the European Union has renewed its permit every six months.
