The Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolanosreported this Monday that during the meeting between the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, it was agreed to make “one last attempt” to quickly resolve the problem renewal of the General Council for the Judiciary (CGPJ), something that has confirmed “it’s serious now.”

Bolaños stated at a press conference after the three-hour meeting in the Palacio de la Moncloa between Sánchez and Feijóo that the situation is “very serious”, especially after the resignation of the chairman of the CGPJCarlos Lesmes, reiterating that it is the Spanish government’s commitment to reach an agreement “as soon as possible” with the People’s Party to end this institutional crisis in the judiciary.

In the meeting, which in the second part was attended by both the Minister of the Presidency and the Deputy Secretary of Institutional Affairs of the PP, Esteban Gonzalez-Ponshas agreed that they are the ones who will now negotiate that agreement.

González Pons has assured that the Spanish government is no longer “ignoring” them and they have agreed with the executive to give themselves a “last chance” to “play all or nothing” in the renewal of the CGPJ and the Constitutional Court ( TC). This was said during the press conference after the meeting.

The partner of the Executive United We may not have attended said meeting, but the second vice president, Yolanda Diazhas urged to “correct now” the “deviation” that the “anti-democratic” blockade assumes in the renewal of the CGPJ, which has taken almost four years.

The Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarushas demanded that the PP end its “soft blow to democracy” and demand that the CGPJ be renewed “without concessions or conditions” to the people.

In turn, the purple formation warned the PSOE this morning that it must ensure that Podemos, as a “legitimate” member of the Executive, plays a “defining” and active role in the negotiations with a view to unblocking this judicial body.

For his part, the PNV spokesperson in Congress, Aitor Estebanhas regarded the blockade of the judicial authorities as “unfortunate, unacceptable and unpresentable” and has ruled that with the resignation of Lesmes the situation continues “as it was: a disaster”.

In a note, Esteban stated that Lesmes’ decision “will not make the situation worse because in practice it will remain as it was”, adding that his resignation and that of “the entire CGPJ should have happened a long time ago”.
