The fact that the outgoing regional councilor Heinrich Schellhorn in Tamsweg (Lungau/Salzburg) now wants to receive other asylum seekers instead of Ukrainian refugees is a source of annoyance.
“It’s not a problem for us and I told the State Council that a few weeks ago,” Tamsweg mayor Georg Gappmayer (ÖVP) is surprised about Heinrich Schellhorn’s (Greens) asylum plans.
Stone of Struggle:
The two wooden rooms, which were reactivated in March and have been hosting Ukrainian refugees ever since. Schellhorn now wants to vacate one of the houses and accommodate the Ukrainians elsewhere. The space would be needed for other refugees, they say.
Not accepted
That is out of the question for Georg Gappmayer. So far, no one has come forward on the matter. If the project were to be carried out against the will of the municipality, it would certainly not be adopted lightly.
“The people are very well integrated here. That they have to move is out of the question,” says Gappmayer. The mayor also points to a promise made when the district was reactivated in March: “It was said that only Ukrainians would move in!”
