“Give a raise” – Short girlfriend’s salary turns into a mud fight

Date:

On Friday, the Ministry of Finance denied that there was a salary increase for Susanne Thier in 2016. SPÖ mandatary Kai Jan Krainer now submits files showing that Thomas Schmid was only wrong in his confession this year and that his accusation was justified. Sebastian Kurz objected, handing over his girlfriend’s payslip. In 2018 there was a salary increase of 68 euros because Thier took over a maternity leave replacement. The colleague who became pregnant at the time also reported to the “Krone”. The chronology of a mud fight.

It’s an afterthought that turns into a mud fight. But the most important thing is the credibility of Thomas Schmid. In his confession to the Public Prosecution Service for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA), ex-Öbag boss Schmid reports that Sebastian Kurz’s partner received a salary increase from the Ministry of Finance at Kurz’s request in 2016.

Thier then worked in the communications department of the Treasury department.

This accusation that there was a chancellor bonus for Kurz’s partner caused quite a stir in the media. The “Krone” asked the Ministry of Finance. On Friday, the “Krone” received the following response:

“In 2016, there was no salary increase in the form of a change of assignment for Ms Thier. In addition, their remuneration always corresponded to the normal salary scheme in the public service:

  • January 2011 employment and salary level V2, because no diploma
  • from June 2011 level V1, due to graduation
  • from 2015 level V1/2, because of passing the service exam (with distinction)
  • from 2019 level V1/3 because the deputy head of department went on maternity leave and Mag. Thier succeeded her”

Krainer accuses Treasury Department of fake news
SPÖ MP Jan Krainer doubts that. The Ministry of Finance has again deliberately given false information to the media, he writes on Twitter. “The Treasury Department’s internal files support Thomas Schmid’s statements about Kurz and his partner. He just couldn’t remember the year. Changing maternity leave later had nothing to do with it.”

Mail to HR department
Additionally, Krainer tweeted an email dated December 17, 2018, in which a Treasury Department employee wrote: “Upgrade the two A1/2 positions THIS WEEK (!) with job descriptions both to A1/3 on behalf of the Secretary General (that was Thomas Schmid) Improve contact with Pasqauli.”

Kurz reveals his partner’s payslip
Krainer says this upgrade has nothing to do with the parental leave replacement three months later. Incidentally, this controversial salary increase for 69 euros net per month on the pay slip. Sebastian Kurz has now announced the payslip to the “Krone”.

The former chancellor and the Ministry of Finance disagree with Krainer on this point. Colleague Andrea D., who became pregnant at the time, was deputy head of the communications department. A not unimportant item for which a solution had to be found quickly.

The superior supervisor was Schmid
The head of the department responsible for communications at the time was Secretary General Thomas Schmid. In this regard, Schmid had to be informed that Kurz’s partner would be used as a substitute for parental leave.

The deputy department head now also comments on the “Krone”: “I can’t in any way understand the excitement this perfectly normal procedure is currently causing,” says Andrea D.

Because Andrea D. found out about the pregnancy in November 2018. “In December 2018, the head of department and I decided that Susanne Thier, my longest-serving employee, would be my successor,” said Andrea D.
