Al-Attiyah (cars) and Sunderland (bikes), new world champions

Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota), in cars, and British driver Sam Sunderland (Gasgas), in motorcycles, won the FIA ​​​​and FIM Cross Country Rally world titles this Sunday, according respectively, after the completion of the Andalucía Rally, the last valid test for the World Championship of both specialties.

The fifth and final stage of the rally, built in its scheduled part on the coast of the province of Cádiz, had a partial victory on the motorcycles of the Frenchman Adrian Van Beveren (Honda), who confirmed his victory in the Andalusian contest.

Fifth place was enough for Sunderland to clinch the world title, following previous Dakar Rally trials in Abu Dhabi, Kazakhstan and Morocco.

In cars, French Sébastien Loeb (Bahrain Raid Extreme) won the Andalusia Rally by six seconds ahead of Al-Attiyah, who was able to maintain his lead in the overall World Championship classification by winning its final stage.

In other car divisions, the Belgian Guillaume de Mevius (Red Bull Junior Team) took victory in the T3 category, while the Chilean Francisco ‘Chaleco’ López (Factory South Racing) was crowned as the modality’s new world champion.

In T4, the only Spanish victory of the Andalucía Rally took place, for 18-year-old Pau Navarro (FN Speed), beating his compatriot Gerard Farrés (Can-Am Factory South Racing) in the final general classification .

In the auxiliary motorcycle categories, Frenchman Alexandre Giroud (Yamaha-SMX-Drag’on) won the Andalusia Rally in quads and also confirmed his success in the World Championship.

In the Rally 2 category, the American Mason Klein (BAS World KTM) is the new world champion; and in Rally 3, Moroccan Amine Echiguer was crowned world champion, with Frenchman Jeremy Miroir (DB Motors) achieving victory in the ‘Andalucía Rally’.
