MEP Claudia Gamon will be the new head of NEOS in Vorarlberg. After the current state spokeswoman Sabine Scheffknecht announced on Monday that she would relinquish the party leadership early next year, Gamon officially presented herself as a candidate on Tuesday. Scheffknecht’s successor is expected to be determined at a general meeting in January 2023. Scheffknecht was confident that Gamon would get “broad support”.
“We are ready for the next growth step”, emphasized Scheffknecht once again. In Claudia Gamon, a competent candidate is ready to succeed her. Gamon, 33, attracted Vorarlberg as a region with huge potential. But there are also many areas in which politics is holding the country back.
As examples, she cited childcare, the compatibility of work and family, the development of the location (“The state government hides instead of making decisions”) or a promise of promotion that has not been kept: “For us liberals it is very important that all boys have the same opportunity to grow,” said Gamon, who also stated: “We don’t want to prescribe, we want to make it possible.”
Scheffknecht confirmed that NEOS felt ready to join the government. Conversely, Gamon described her “key project” as developing a program for the 2024 state elections – if she is elected state spokeswoman. The 33-year-old has been with NEOS since 2013 and sat on the National Council from 2015 to 2019 before being sworn in as a Member of the European Parliament in the summer of 2019.
