The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office has halted the investigation into fraud against ex-FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache in the Kappel case. There is “no real reason for further prosecution,” says the justification for the appointment.
Because ex-FPÖ-EU MP Barbara Kappel has withdrawn her claim that a donation she made was for Strache, the “Standard” reports. As a result, she had to answer for false statements in January 2021.
Questionable money donation
Kappel had stated that at the end of 2018 he had received a donation from a Bulgarian businessman – 55,000 euros in three tranches – and forwarded it to the then party leader Strache. In fact, this was intended for the FPÖ MP Andreas Karlsböck (who died in 2019), she admitted in court in January 2020. She was diverted and had to pay a fine.
